The County of Tulare is applying for FY 2011 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) funds. The U.S. Department of Justice sponsors the JAG program to assist law enforcement agencies with implementing crime-reduction strategies. The County’s allocation for FY 2011 under JAG is $47,034.The Tulare County Sheriff’s Department plans to use the grant to continue to assign a full-time deputy to rotate between several school districts in southern Tulare County. Participating school districts pay the balance of the deputy’s salary, benefits, and other expenses. The program has been very well received by students, school officials, and community members in the rural communities the program serves. Tulare County residents wishing to express an opinion on how these JAG funds should be spent can call Sheriff’s Capt. Jim Hinesly at 636-4712 or express their opinion at a meeting of the Tulare County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, June 21, 2011. The Board meeting will be conducted at 2800 W.
