Last week, Aurelio Bernal proudly represented Youth@Work at a statewide event celebrating the expanded summer jobs program made possible by the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) program. ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS RECEIVES STIMULUS FUNDING FOR LAKE KAWEAH AND LAKE SUCCESS PROJECTS

Tulare County officials were notified Tuesday, June 16 that the Army Corps of Engineers will receive approximately $2.696 million in extra funding for operations and maintenance work at Lake Success and Terminus Dam at Lake Kaweah. The locally funded projects are included on a list of Army Corps of Engineers civil works projects that will be funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) signed earlier this year by President Barack Obama.

The CDC reports that to date, Tulare County has 3 laboratory confirmed cases of H1N1, and 2 probable cases of H1N1.  There have been 221 laboratory confirmed cases in California. In total, there have been 3,352 confirmed cases of H1N1 Flu nationally, and the majority of these cases have been mild. At this time, three deaths in the U.S. have been reported due to the illness.

SUPERVISORS APPOINT NEW INTERIM TULARE COUNTY RESOURCE MANAGEMENT AGENCY DIRECTOR

Kristin Bennett was appointed Interim Resource Management Agency Director by a unanimous vote of the Tulare County Board of Supervisors on May 5, 2009. Bennett's appointment was prompted by former RMA Director Henry Hash's decision last Thursday to resign to his position for "personal and private reasons." Hash will continue to serve as a consultant to the County until November 2009.

On April 7, 2009, the California Employment Development Department (EDD) announced the distribution of approximately $8.97 million in federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act) stimulus funds to the Tulare County Workforce Investment Board. The funding is designed to help many unemployed Tulare County workers get back into the workforce. TULARE COUNTY COMMITTEE SOLICITS INDIAN GAMING GRANT APPLICATIONS
The Tulare County Indian Gaming Local Community Benefit Committee is actively seeking grant applications from interested parties.
Senate Bill 621, which became law on January 1, 2004, makes grant funding available to counties, cities and special districts impacted by tribal gaming from the Indian Gaming Special Distribution Fund.  Gaming tribes that operated 200 or more gaming devices on or before September 1, 1999 contribute a variable portion of their net winnings into the Fund.

Time to stop the state tax grab

Like a drunk who spends all of his money at the bar and then staggers home to steal the rent money to continue his binge, the state is back for more after spending billions they didn't have.
